COVIDENCE UK:

COVIDENCE is a UK study co-hosted by colleagues from Swansea University.

It is a population-based UK longitudinal study looking at risk factors for COVID-19, that will also act as a platform for trials of preventive interventions.

Any UK resident over 16 can sign up to beat COVID-19 and identify any long term effects. You can sign up at https://www.qmul.ac.uk/covidence/

There's a survey of lifestyle and health (30 mins) followed by shorter survey on any complications of COVID-19.

PRINCIPLE Trial – Social Media Post

Bodnant Medical Centre is taking part in the national PRINCIPLE clinical trial, which aims to find low-risk treatments for older people with COVID-19 that can be taken at home.

To be eligible to join the trial you will need to have experienced symptoms that are likely to be caused by COVID-19 for fewer than 15 days.

The trial is open to people aged 65 or over, or aged 50–64 with an underlying health condition.

You join the trial online, even if you are not currently registered with our practice. For full details, visit http://www.principletrial.org

Dear patients,

As a result of the ongoing CoVID 19 situation, you will be aware that the surgery has made a number of changes to the way we work over the past two weeks. This is because we have to keep people, in general, away from the surgery, which is challenging because we have 12,000 patients. This is to try to protect our staff and those patients who have come in to see the clinical team. We will face further challenges tomorrow, Monday, 16/3/20 and anticipate a situation that will continue to change over the coming weeks and months.   From 16/3/20 the surgery entrance will be locked and a new intercom system installed. Only patients who already have an appointment will be admitted to the surgery.

All requests for appointments will have to be made by telephone, and all requests for appointments will be dealt with by a GP. An appointment will be arranged for those who need to be seen face to face.

We hope to set up a platform for video consultations tomorrow (16/3/20) and will begin video call consultation as soon as possible.

We are currently continuing to make advance appointments for practice nurses and healthcare practitioners, but we must stress that you SHOULD NOT attend such an appointment if you have heat (37.8C or above) , a new cough or flu-like symptoms, and you should self-isolate for 7 days at the advice of Public Health Wales.

All repeat requests for prescriptions / prescriptions will need to have a note on which pharmacy to send. The pharmacies collect prescriptions from us on a daily basis.

All prescription requests can be dropped into a box on the surgery's front door.

We have a dedicated room to see children who are ill with chest heat / symptoms. We will ask those patients to come in through the door to the left of the surgery, calling a mobile phone so that the doctor can meet you at that door. The doctor will wear protective materials eg mask, apron, gloves etc. in this situation. This room is isolated from the rest of the surgery.

REMEMBER if you have heat (high temperature) or persistent new cough, stay home and self-isolate for 7 days.

Ewch i wefan nhdirect.wales.nhs.uk/COVID19 i wirio eich symtomau a dilynwch y cyngor.  Peidiwch â galw NHS111 os nad yw eich symtomau’n gwaethygu.  Mewn sefyllfa argyfyngus galwch 999 a hysbyswch hwynt o’ch symtomau fel bydd y tim meddygol wedi eu hamddiffyn.  PEIDIWCH â mynd i adran frys yr ysbyty ar eich liwt eich hun.

Diolch am eich amynedd a’ch cydweithrediad yn ystod y cyfnod anodd hwn.

Dear Patients,

Due to the ongoing developing situation with the COVID-19 Coronavirus, you will be aware that the Surgery has made a number of changes over the past two weeks with regards to how we are working.  This is because we need to dramatically reduce the number of people coming in to into the practice building, which is a challenge with nearly 12,000 registered patients.  This is to try to protect our staff and those patients who have to come in to see the clinical team.  Further changes will commence tomorrow, Monday 16/3/20, and we anticipate an evolving situation over the next few weeks and months.  Here is a summary of the current changes in place:

From 16/3/20 the entrance to the surgery will be locked as a new intercom system has been installed.  Only those patients who already have an appointment will be allowed into the Surgery

All appointment requests are to be made over the telephone.  The GPs will conduct a telephone triage for all appointment requests.  Those requiring face-to-face consultations will have an appointment arranged for them.

We hope to install a video consultation platform tomorrow and will be commencing video consultations this week onwards if possible, when needed

We are currently continuing to book patients to see the Practice Nurse and Health care nurses for their nursing needs, however we must stress that you should cancel these appointments if you are unwell with fever (t >37.8), cough or flu like symptoms, and self-isolate for 7 days as per Public Health advice

All prescription requests must have a dedicated pharmacy destination.  The pharmacies collect the scripts from us daily.

All repeat prescription requests can be dropped into the post-box on the front door to the surgery

We have a dedicated room to see children who are unwell with fever/chest symptoms.  Patients will be asked to enter the surgery via the fire exit door to the left of the building when the Doctor has phoned for you to meet them at the door.  The doctor will be wearing protective personal equipment.  This room has been cordoned off from the rest of the surgery.

Remember-if you have a high temperature or a new and continuous cough-stay at home and self isolate for 7 days.

Go to nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk/COVID19/ to check your symptoms and follow advice.  Only call NHS 111 if your symptoms worsen.  Call 999 in an emergency/life threatening situation and alert them in advance of your symptoms so that the medical team are fully protected.  Do NOT go directly to the Emergency Department.

Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.
